Dynamics GP Requisition Management Integration With MOSS 2007

Recently I responded to a thread on Dynamics GP Community forum pertaining to the subject in the title of this post. I thought I place the Q&A in this post since it might be helpful for others when they come across the same questions.

Q. Do we need to have Business Portal installed to integrate Requisition Management with MOSS 2007?

A. Requisition Management is part of Business Portal and not exactly part of MOSS 2007 or no integration for that matter. Business Portal itself requires either MOSS or WSS.

Q. Does Business Portal must be installed for us to use the Requisition Management module?

A. Yes. Because Requisition Management is a module that is part of Business Portal and not a stand alone product by itself

Q. When BP is installed, I assume it asks for the URL/ Server where our MOSS environment lives, does it then create a site within our MOSS site collection, so it appears seamless to the end user?

A. Basically If you have MOSS installed, First you need to install Web services for Dynamics GP before installing BP. If you are installing BP on WSS, Web services are not required. For BP, In MOSS, you'd first need to create a Web Application and choose Collaboration Team template. Then, When you start installing BP, First you'd need to provide the URL for your web services and then it asks for URL where BP is supposed to be installed. So,It doesn’t create a web application in MOSS by itself first you have to create it in MOSS, then when you come back to BP installation, You'd see the web application you created in the drop down to choose from.

Reprint General Posting Journals

Back to basics. This is something most of the GP newbies ask us. While we have Posting Journals reprint functionality available for all other modules, How do we reprint the General Ledger Posting Journal?

In General Ledger for Dynamics GP, We do have a Posting Journal reprint functionality but we term the same Cross Reference Report. This report is available under Financial | Reports | Cross – Reference.

We can print this report based on Journal Entry restriction, Source Document or Audit Trial Code.

Invoice Management System for Dynamics GP simplified with IDS

I get requests from most of our clients, especially from clients in Distribution sector for simplifying their invoice Management process in Sales Order Processing for Dynamics GP. The other common request I get is to simplify the process of Customer Statements delivery as well as ability to provide them with flexible formats. On my look out for a solution that addresses these challenges in the most efficient manner and at ease, Microsoft Solution Finder did help me to identify a right solution for this, IDS for Dynamics GP. I thought I’d share about this product with my readers as well that would rightly help us meet our client requirements. Some of the key features as I could see from the solution when I downloaded and tried the demo

  1. Electronic Delivery of Invoices and Statements
  2. Have flexibility to send Invoices and Customer statements through several combinations like printing, e-mailing, faxing.
  3. Invoices and Statements Archiving that helps us save the paper a lot.
  4. Another good feature is ability to consolidate multiple invoices for delivery into a single transmission with a single file.
  5. Customer Contact Management simplified
  6. Ability to have multiple templates for invoices and statements
  7. Tracking user activity as to how many invoices or statements generated by each user.

More Screenshots are available here.

Among all, one great feature that I like the most is the flexibility to have our own custom invoices and statement templates defined which is most common stuff for us here.Especially Invoices Delivery Management is great to have to simplify the invoice management process. Moreover, The solution is a Microsoft Certified Solution. I tried the product downloading a Demo copy from the website and I should say it’s awesome. I can very much meet my client additional requirements in SOP using this add-in without taking time to customize myself. Just plug-in the application and We’re good to go.

More information can be found on this Add-in for Dynamics GP here.

Dynamics GP Blogs Analytics 2009

So, We are almost coming close to our Dynamics GP Year-End Process (In other words, Dynamics GP Blogs Year-end). Very recently, Bing has released 2009 Top Searches followed by Yahoo and Google. Following their path, Here are certain numbers for Dynamics GP as well. Just kidding!  I just thought to analyze how much contribution from our prime time bloggers on Dynamics GP is going into the community as a whole. One major objective of doing this exercise is to help Dynamics GP customers in specific realize as to how many resources they do have surrounding Dynamics GP community, specially how much they can extract from Dynamics GP Blogs in specific. I didn’t want to go beyond 2009 as it would cost me more time and so restricted to 2009 numbers. Secondly, Certain Blogs do not have Archives with numbers tagged so I have to skip them. So, Let’s go straight to the numbers.

I considered 15 blogs in total and have to skip around 5+ blogs. I’d say there are about 20 blogs which are most active on Dynamics GP out of which I’m presenting here for 5 blogs. There are almost 1842 posts covered through these 15 blogs on the chart for the year 2009. Out of which, Majority chunk coming from Mark Polino Blog which accounts for 657 posts. Mark has been so kind to refer other community members posts regularly apart from posting his own tips and weekly posts which are primarily attributable to these numbers. Then comes to Developing for Dynamics GP with 217, followed by Dynamics GP Blogster and so on. So, Guys, You have about 1842 posts to gain knowledge from. Out of these blogs, I’d say the highest number of posts with videos come from Rose Business Solutions which is a good resource to refer to for quick tuitorials.

Apart from the Blogs, Dynamics GP Newsgroup has about 13750 messages posted in 2009 while it is 1752 messages in Dynamics GP Google Group. (Source: Google Groups) Dynamics GP partner Forum has about 2143 threads with 12063 messages to read from though this is not available to customers. I didn’t consider the posts in Dynamics GP Developer newsgroup though.
